A very warm welcome to my new website and to the wonderful world of gems and jewellery.

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by gemstones and jewellery. I have my mother to thank for this passion as it was her jewellery box that lured me into this world of constant discovery.

She had a beautiful silver jewellery box that was covered in amethyst beads. The exterior was just as gorgeous as the jewellery that was kept under lock and key.

My mother’s taste was simple and elegant. During the day, she wore her large cultured pearl studs and her diamond engagement ring. If she was going out to lunch, she would wear a gem-set brooch or a strand of south sea pearls. Her evening jewels were classic and subtle. To me, she was pure elegance.  My father also liked jewels and he often surprised her with his own creations. Occasionally, to our utter delight, my sisters and I were lucky to be part of his generosity as well.

I knew from an early age that I wanted to be creative. My mother encouraged this creativity, and she would often consult me when she acquired a new gemstone or when she wanted one of her existing pieces redesigned.  In those days, I never thought of designing jewellery as a career, and instead studied art history. However, after graduating, I found myself back home in Hong Kong enrolled in the Asian Gemmological Institute and Laboratory and becoming a Fellow Graduate Associate. I took many courses at the Institute as well as at the Gemmological Institute of America.  I attended seminars ranging from pearl and diamond grading to gemstone treatments. I enrolled in counter sketching and CAD courses. More recently, I have completed my coursework for jewellery valuation and am on my way to becoming a registered jewellery valuer. The world of gems and jewellery is one of constant discovery and I still have so much to learn.

I had a wonderful and fascinating career at Sotheby’s and at Van Cleef and Arpels.  I feel very privileged to have handled some of the world’s rarest, historical and finest gems and jewels.

My work is a constant voyage of discovery and learning. My new website will allow me to share not only my designs but also share my expertise in gems and jewellery.  I’ll be introducing jewellery and gemological news, interesting pieces that come up for auction, new designers as well as related exhibitions.  I hope you will join me and read my blog and discover this fascinating journey that I hope will educate and excite.
